In this 2-day didactic and experiential training, play therapists and mental health practitioners working with individuals and families of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Community will gain an understanding of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) of individuals and families and their intersectional identities as it applies to play therapy interventions and mental health practice policy.
Throughout the two days Play Therapist will developmental through the lens of Crenshaw’s Intersectionality, the role of identity and development play in working with Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) children and adolescents. This workshop will examine culturally sensitive language, gender-affirming practices, and strategies, play therapy interventions, and the interplay of the therapeutic powers of play. Participants will examine the intersectionality of the relevance of SOGIE Community populations, including historical, political, and policy perspectives, the development of SOGIE identity-formation, health, mental health, familial issues, and SOGIE issues through childhood and adolescence. Participants will learn relevant play therapy interventions that can be applied in the playroom.
