In this dynamic six-hour experiential course, play therapists will delve into the innovative fusion of Play Therapy and the Playmaker Project. This unique approach combines the principles of Child-Centered Play Therapy and Adlerian Play Therapy with the dynamic methodologies of the Playmaker Project, enriching therapeutic interactions and fostering profound growth in clients of diverse backgrounds. Play therapists will gain a foundation of understanding of the impact of Adverse Child Experiences and toxic stress while being able to address through O’Playsis and how it can be incorporated in Play Therapy. Through a blend of theory, hands-on activities, and practical applications, participants will gain the tools and insights needed to elevate their practice to new heights. Theoretical Basis: This course draws upon the foundational principles of Child-Centered Play Therapy and Adlerian Play Therapy to inform its theoretical framework. By integrating these approaches with the innovative methodologies of the Playmaker Project, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively apply play therapy techniques to promote healing, growth, and empowerment in their clients.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the impact of toxic stress and trauma on the developing child and activities that support resilience in children and youth.
  • List the four R’s of Playmaker Project and be able to apply them to the concept of O’Playsis.
  • Compile a collection of four new active engagement activities to utilize in play therapy with existing play therapy clients.
  • Create a ‘Goodified’ play activity for use in individual and group play therapy settings.
  • Apply use of four beats to directive play therapy activities.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead a family or group in play therapy using a Playmaker activity.
  • Describe how internal control is developed during play therapy.
  • Apply play therapy strategies that create feelings of safety and empowerment for participants of diverse backgrounds who present in play therapy.
  • Explain to participants in play therapy about the four “-tions”.

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for graduate-level pre-licensed and licensed behavioral/mental health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, and play therapists for continuing education purposes.

  • Kurt W. Oster, LBS, LICSW, LCSW-QS, ACSW, BCD Registered Play Therapist™

    A transformative innovator, entrepreneur, educator, author, and social worker passionate about driving change, Kurt W. Oster, LBS, LICSW, LCSW, ACSW, BCD, RPT™ & Certified Playmaker is entering his sixteenth year in the mental health field. He is the Owner/President & CEO of VonOstir Innovation Services, PLLC, and the Chief Clinical Officer of Aspire Integrated Healthcare Systems, LLC.

    Mr. Oster is a Pennsylvania Licensed Behavioral Specialist (LBS), an Alabama Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), a Florida, Pennsylvania, & Virginia Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and a Florida and New Jersey Certified PreK-12 School Social Worker (CSSW). He is a Member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), and the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, a Board-Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (BCD), and a Registered Play Therapist (RPT)™. In April 2024, Mr. Oster became a Certified Playmaker with the Life is Good Playmaker Project.

    Mr. Oster holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Urban Studies from Rutgers University, a Master in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from the University of Southern California, and a Master of Science (MS) in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Colorado Technical University. Additionally, Mr. Oster holds certifications including the ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Professional (ADHD-CCSP), Autism Spectrum Disorder-Clinical Specialist (ASD-CS), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), and FEMA Professional Continuity Practitioner, Level I.

    As an LCSW, Mr. Oster serves children, adolescents, young adults, their families, LGBTQIA+, and individuals working through Trauma. Outside of his clinical practice, Mr. Oster is an author and presents information on youth civic engagement, SOGIE mental health, disaster preparedness, and emergency management to the international community. Mr. Oster, LBS, LCSW, ACSW, BCD, RPT™, is currently writing his first textbook in LGBTQ+ Play Therapy, which will be published in June 2025.

  • Denise Galford-Koeppel, PMC, LMHC, RPT™, CEIS, PlayMaker

    Denise Galford-Koeppel, PMC, LMHC, RPT™, CEIS, PlayMaker, is a seasoned Child and Family Therapist and Early Childhood Special Educator with extensive experience supporting families of young children and children with special needs. Holding degrees from Wellesley and Wheelock Colleges and Bay Path University, Denise also boasts a Post-Master's Certificate in Early Education Research Policy and Practice from U Mass Boston.

    With a diverse skill set, Denise is a certified special educator, early intervention specialist, coach, licensed mental health counselor, and registered play therapist. Her expertise extends to supporting children, parents, and educators utilizing methodologies such as the Hanen® Program, the Pyramid Model, and the Developmental Individual-Differences Relationship-Based Model® (DIR®), with a particular focus on children under 8 years old.

    Known as a Playmaker and play logistics, Denise is passionate about harnessing the power of play to impact future generations positively.
